THURSDAY, JULY 20 7:00-9:00PM Near-Death Experiences $30
Near-death experiences are a fascinating subject that bridges modern medical practice and ancient Greek philosophy. Survivors of close calls with death usually recount their transcendent experiences in the form of a travel narrative. They tell us that their consciousness leaves their body and rises upward, where they witness the resuscitation procedure going on below. However, articulate they may be, they say that the experience is indescribable and that there are no words that can adequately describe it. They say that in the right light they feel, comfort, joy, peace and love so intense as to be almost palpable. Dr. Moody’s bestselling book Life After Life (1975) was an analysis of about 150 cases of near-death experiences that woke the modern world up to this ancient phenomenon. Join us this evening as Dr. Raymond Moody shares his vast knowledge and research on near-death experiences.

Evoking Spirits of the Departed: Historical, literary and Therapeutic Aspects
Ancient Greek oracles of the dead employed techniques for calling up vivid, lifelike apparitions of the deceased.  Furthermore, oracles of the dead played a formative role in the origins of Western thought through their influence on early Greek philosophers.  Philosophy professor and psychiatrist, Dr. Raymond Moody has studied Greek oracles of the dead since 1962, and guided hundreds of people through the procedure.  This workshop is a thorough overview of historical, literary and therapeutic information concerning evoking spirits of the dead.
The objective of the workshop is to prepare participants to construct their own apparatus and guide people through procedures for encountering deceased loved ones. As background, there will be a full discussion of the amazing history of evoking the deceased, its profound influence on Western literature.

The workshop will include:

  • Detailed instructions for building a simple apparition chamber, or Psychomanteum .
  • Step-by step instructions for preparing people to visit with Departed loved ones.
  • Presentation of results achieved with this procedure by Dr. Moody and other investigators.
  • Often people interested in the psychomanteums are grieving, Dr. Moody will present a thorough discussion on grief.
  • A comprehensive bibliography of ancient and modern works will be provided to enable participants to research this fascinating subject further on their own.
